It sounds outrageous, but it is true: Evangelicals are drowning Catholics in Central America!
My wife is from Central America. Every couple of months we get news from her family that the Evangelicals have drowned another Catholic. Why is this happening?
Evangelicals in Central America preach that Roman Catholics (who were baptized as infants) are not Christians. Therefore, they must be converted, and after being converted, they must be re-baptized. The converts' Catholic infant baptism is invalid.
Most Central American evangelical churches do not have baptismal tanks as they do here in the United States, so the new converts (mostly Catholics) are taken down to the nearest river to be baptized by immersion.
The rivers in Central America are not like the slow moving Jordan River. They have swift, dangerous currents. Many people in this area cannot swim. So they are taken down into these dangerous rivers to be baptized by complete immersion and end up drowning.
This is tragic nonsense!
Roman Catholics who believe that Jesus Christ is their Savior are Christians (that would be most of them). They have already been baptized. They do not need to be re-baptized. They do not need to be immersed to have a valid baptism.
Dear Evangelicals, your false doctrines, which have only existed since the sixteenth century, are causing unnecessary tragedy.
Stop the drownings! Stop the unnecessary re-baptizing of Catholic Christians!
A confessional (orthodox) Lutheran Christian's personal reflections on his faith growing up in the Baptist and evangelical branch of Christianity, in comparison to his faith and beliefs now as a Lutheran. The purpose of this blog is to share Lutheranism in Baptist and evangelical language. (I also occasionally comment on current political and social issues.) If you are interested in becoming a follower of Jesus Christ, this blog will tell you how: Believe, repent, be baptized.
