Are you washed in the Blood?

One of my favorite hymns growing up Baptist was "Are You Washed in the Blood?".   Here is the refrain:

Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

This is such a wonderful song!  I don't think any Christian can sing or hear this song without being spiritually moved and uplifted.  However, have Baptists and evangelicals ever stopped to realize that they have NEVER actually come into contact in any way, shape, or form with "the Blood of the Lamb"?  They have only been symbolically washed in the blood.

How wonderful it is to believe, as a Lutheran, that every Sunday, on my knees at the altar of my church, beneath a crucifix of my dying Savior, I come into actual, physical contact with the very blood of the Lamb of God...in Holy Communion!  And my sins are washed away...white as snow!
